Turkey and Syria Earthquake Relief

Devastation in Turkey and Syria. Many lives lost, many people without shelter, food or water. The entire world has heard of the tragedy that took place February 6, many have moved on. It’s the nature of our constant news cycle….always on to the next.

But there is no moving on for the people that remain. Families without shelter, without access to food. Just this week, another quake struck, toppling more buildings, wreaking more havoc.

Feeding The Nations is sending aid to groups on the ground, already offering assistance. Can you help? The need is great, but “many hands make light work.” We can help alleviate their suffering. We can be the hands and feet of Jesus to those who are in desperate need.

A Heart for Israel

Israel has been on our hearts ever since my father, Dr. Lester Sumrall’s first visit just a few years after statehood.

He took our family there in 1956 to live, then a war broke out. The ambassador said “Sumrall, take your family to Cyprus like I am and I will pay your way.”  My Dad said, “You didn’t pay my way here and you can’t pay my way out.” So there we were. It was during the Sinai War, and we were living in Jerusalem. Yes, everything became different overnight. The international school closed, because there were just three students left. Three little boys, my two brothers and me.

What happened? Israel won. Everything settled down (a little). We stayed because while we were living as missionaries in the Philippines, the Lord spoke to my dad about his future ministry and part of that included Israel.

Has this influenced my life? Totally and in every way possible. Here in South Bend, we have a church, Christ Chapel, but also Feeding The Nations, an international feeding program. My Dad felt led by the Lord to help those in desperate need with food and the hope of the Gospel. It was to be “pastor to pastor, church to church”. From God’s people here to God’s people there, on the ground and, to the best of our ability, we have followed the same pattern. There have been many challenges but by God’s grace and the generosity of believers, many have been helped over the years.

Right now in Israel, they have many challenges. Challenges in the South of Israel and to the North of Israel. Pastor-to-pastor and church-to-church means we work with already-established ministries on the ground. They live there. They know the problem and how to bring hope and help to the people.

Will you help us help them? Locally they are stretched. They need our prayers and help. Pastor Israel Pochtar and his church continue to help immigrants coming to Israel. They continue to assist the elderly who are sometimes neglected and they are helping those affected by the war.

Can you help? Will you help? Praying is first always. After praying we give, and I pray that you are able to give generously. Thank you.

Hurricane Helene Relief

We’ve all witnessed the devastation. 

Roads and bridges have collapsed, cars swept away, and homes completely submerged. Families are stranded without running water or electricity. Hurricane Helene left a wide and destructive path that is still causing damage and will require years of rebuilding.

However, we can make a difference now. Samaritan’s Purse is on the ground in disaster-stricken areas, offering emergency relief now. We are sending assistance and invite you to join us. Please donate today; every dollar will go towards helping families in need. 

Please keep all communities affected in your prayers. Hundreds of lives have been lost and hundreds more are still missing. Thank you for your generosity.

Faithful Servants

Writing to the Corinthian church, Paul asked to be considered a “steward” or “servant” of Christ and then he added, “Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.” (I Corinthians 4:1-2)

Since 2005, the staff and partners of Feeding The Nations have prioritized faithfulness to the calling of God as a top priority in carrying out our work. And now we ask, would you make the same commitment? Your monthly love gift provides the funds necessary to continue the work of FTN both in current missions and new ones. Give Hope On Mother’s Day

MOM. What would we do without her? Mom making sure homework is done, mom packing the lunches, mom bringing the sports equipment or band instruments to school, mom sitting in the stands cheering us on.

Mom is the glue that holds the family together.

This is true all over the world.

But in many parts of our world, mom is holding her family together by constantly running with her children to get out of the way of bombs and gunfire. Mama is holding her family together by going without food to be sure her children can eat. Mom walks long distances to provide her children with clean water. Mommy stands for hours in incredibly long lines to receive donations of food and supplies for her family. In every nation, Mom faces extremely difficult circumstances and overcomes them for her children.

We can give her Hope.

We can give hope to the mother who is a refugee. To the mom wondering where her family’s next meal is coming from, to the mom who doesn’t know how she will keep going. We can let her know she isn’t forgotten.

Spring Has Sprung!

Spring has sprung—at least, here in northern Indiana. Flowers are blooming, new life is coming up from the ground. Easter is one of my favorite times of year. “Up from the grave He arose!” Praise God. This is a season of hope and light.

Friends, our world needs new life, a resurrection. Things are upside down, turned inside out. Frankly, the world is in a mess, famine, poverty, drought, and war. Too many children are without the basic necessities to live. Too many parents feel hopeless because they can’t provide for their families.

You can bring hope to parents living in abject poverty. You can bring hope to children living in countries torn apart by war.

You answered the call for families and children in Malawi, and thanks to your generosity, two containers, over half a million meals were sent! Thank God! That is amazing! You gave generously for Israel and thousands of families were fed hot meals and given food assistance. Thank you!

This spring, we’re sending a container of fortified rice meals and personal care products to Honduras. Our long-time ministry partners on the ground are starting a new feeding program. There are so many desperate people. People living in absolute poverty, which contributes directly to rising crime and, sadly, child trafficking. This food will do so much to help families.

Another container full of food, personal care products, and medical supplies is headed to Ukraine this Spring. Friends, the cost of shipping these two containers is approximately 6 cents per meal. That’s it. You can send over 200,000 meals and personal hygiene products as well as medical supplies for just 6 cents per meal.

We can bring hope. We can show desperate people the love of God. We can show them someone cares. Thank you so much for your donation. I pray you and your family have a glorious Easter celebrating the resurrection of our Savior. We’re so thankful for you. You are always in our prayers.

Our Own Story

It all started on Sunday, December 26, 2004, when an earthquake in the Indian Ocean sparked a deadly tsunami that became one of the worst natural disasters in recorded history. The tsunami killed over 230,000 people in 14 nations. Seeing the great need and the opportunity to help, FTN was born in February 2005. Its very first mission was to get vital food and nutrition to those who were affected by the tsunami.

Nearly two decades later, FTN is still committed to sharing the love of God, while bringing the abundance of the developed world to those in critical need in the third world. FTN has reached 75 nations with over $100 million in total goods and services worldwide, including 150 million meals. [Read more here]
