Feeding The Nations partnered with Global Samaritan Resources to ship two containers with 570,120 rice meals to Mission For Christ in Jinotega. These containers ship on February 28th and March 8th and are valued at $113,780 total. Mission For Christ provides nourishment for 26 schools, 24 congregations, nursing homes, individual families and special schools throughout the Jinotega region. Some of the communities and villages Mission For Christ reaches include: Jinotega, Apanas, La concordria, San Rafael, La Paz, El Attilo, Pantasma, Wiwili, San Jose Nocay, El Cua, La Dalia, San Juan, El Dorado, Yankea, Sille, El Bote, San Andres, Pantawsa, Esperanaz, Tuberias and a number of other smaller communities.
Nicaragua is the poorest Central American country and has been in a state of emergency with the recent historic rainfall amounts. Almost 15% of the country has been affected
by the massive flooding with over 6,000 living in shelters. Mission For Christ gives prioriy help to mothers with children and families with children and elderly.
Honduras – February 2011 Update
Feeding The Nations joined hands with Global Samaritan Resources to send 142,560 meals to Mission Lazarus in Chouluteca on February 9th.We would like to thank Stop Hunger Now for providing this food and the Canterbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham, AL for volunteering to put all these meals together.
Malawi – February 2011 Update
On February 24, 2011, a total of 228,096 rice/vegetable meals along with 3,856 pounds of vitamin supplements were loaded for Iris Ministries. Each day Iris Ministries feeds 8,500 through their feeding programs and children’s homes. The story of Timothy and Mphatso represents how this help is changing lives.
Timothy and Mphatso’s mother died several years ago. Their negligent father spends long periods of time away from them, leaving them to fend for 
themselves. We first met these boys when they attended the Iris Ministries children’s program where games are played, crafts are made, Bible stories are taught, and a meal is served.
Further investigation brought to our attention the severity of their need. They were squatting wherever they could find shelter to sleep at night. Food was scarce and the boys had to go from house to house in the village begging for something to eat. Timothy skipped school in order to do jobs for people in order to earn a little money to buy food. The boys lived in constant fear, were hungry and abandoned.
Recognizing their desperate situation, Iris Africa provided them with food and other essential items such as school supplies and clothing. We also built them a modest house in the neighboring village, all the while waiting for their father to respond to the invitation we offered to meet with the village Chief and Social Welfare Officer to give account for his actions. Last week the boys’ father finally came back to Bangula where he was confronted and given a strong warning to give his children the attention they deserve. He made promises to provide for the boys in different ways but only time will tell whether or not he was serious. Meanwhile, we continue to monitor these boys, providing education at the Iris Africa Primary School for the young brother, and ensuring that they have food to eat each day.
Timothy attends the boys club at Iris each Friday afternoon and enjoys playing football with other young men his age. Mphatso plays on the Iris boys’ junior football (soccer) team and he always has a smile on his face at training. He really loves to play football just like his older brother.
Zambia – February 2011 Update
The container that was loaded on October 19, 2010 arrived in the Missions Touch Ministries Compound on February 8, 2011. Distributions are currently taking place.
Haiti – February 2011 Update
Haitian Orphans Receive Food
The Good Samaritan Children’s Home in Trou du Nord, Haiti, is home for 103 orphans. With last year’s devastating earthquake, the recent surge in food prices and the increased number of children on the feeding program, this home has not been able to make ends meet and has struggled to feed the children. Recently, Feeding The Nations provided over 6,000 meals to help ease this burden. The director, Wilbert Antoine, and the children were were so very grateful to receive the nutritious food and kept saying “Mesi anpil” (Thank you very much).
