We’ve all seen the news about the Syrian refugees. We’ve heard the discussions and dialog about what can and should be done for these people who have left behind everything—family, friends, homes, livelihoods and more—in an attempt to flee the civil war in their nation. We’ve watched it all happen and many of us have wondered what we can do about it. We see disturbing pictures of small children who did not survive the passage. But we don’t know how to help when we are half-a-world away.
You can help. It’s as simple as partnering with us.
Syrians are now the largest refugee population in the world. Over half of the more than 4 million refugees are children. The U.N. predicts that by the end of 2015, this could be the worst exodus since the Rwandan genocide two decades ago.
Over a million Syrian refugees have sought shelter in Lebanon alone where our partner, Pastor G*, lives. We have provided him with funds to purchase food and necessities for hundreds of refugee families within his country.
Families who are receiving these supplies have come face-to-face with ISIS. One woman’s son was an Iraqi soldier. When their village fell under ISIS control, he became wanted due to his actions against those terrorists. The family immediately fled to Lebanon with nothing. Their family of 15 now lives in a tiny room. She came to Pastor G’s church asking for food for her hungry family. He gave her a box of food provided by FTN and promised her continued assistance until they get their asylum.
One man had two large companies and a large home in Syria. ISIS took control of his companies and home, making it an official department for their troops. They fled to Lebanon, leaving everything behind. They now live in an empty room. The man, his wife and three kids sleep on the floor. They have no food. Pastor G said, “We gave them a box of food provided by FTN and invited them to church. They received Jesus despite coming from a Muslim background. Praise God!”
This isn’t just about giving aid to displaced people. This is about reaching refugees with the love of Christ, about bringing them face-to-face with their Heavenly Father. Through this tragic time, God is at work. And as we love these people enough to meet their basic needs, we hear story after story of how they are choosing to deny Islam to follow Jesus.
So, if you wonder how you can help, the answer is to simply click the donate button below. Any amount you give can make a massive difference, not just nutritionally speaking, but also eternally. Together we can love these people to Christ. To do so, donate today.
