October 2012 Update
Good news! Both containers of food arrived in Cuba and have been distributed to those in need. The Cuban people were very grateful to receive these provisions
October 29, 2012:
Feeding The Nations will again partner with Lamia Afghan Foundation to provide food for the needy children in Afghanistan.
Our last outreach was a great success earlier this year. As a result, all partners agreed to work and come together to make this project happen.
Feed My Starving Children agreed to provide 272,160 (42,322 pounds) or 35 pallets of the vitamin enriched, fortified rice and vegetable meals.
Next Feeding The Nations worked with John Bradley Lt. General USAF (Ret.) and his wife Jan. They are the founders of the Lamia Afghan Foundation. General Bradley completed the Denton application which was approved by the government for military support and movement of the cargo.
With the help of Food For Kidz they will truck the food free of charge from Coon Rapids, MN to the MSP 27th Aerial Port Squadron in Minneapolis, MN. From there the USAF will fly the food as space is available to Khairabad, Afghanistan.
Many children, hospitals and feeding centers will receive the food upon arrival. As Feeding The Nations worked the planning of the project you could see God opening door after door. FTN would like to thank all of our friends and partners who make these outreaches possible.
October 24, 2012: Container #3 arrived in Kigali and was cleared for distribution.
The reports that are coming in from the 3 refugee camps are amazing. People at the camps are being ministered to by Brother Parfait and his wife Michelle. Praise and worship teams from the Rwandan Church “Authentic Word Ministries” provided the music for the worship team. After the ministry time the food was distributed to the people at the camps. Many had never eaten rice and vegetables before. Normally only beans and corn are eaten. This was a blessing and so many people said, “Thank you for providing this for our families.”
October 5, 2012: Great news! The 42,000 pounds of food shipped by FTN arrived in Bujumbura on October 5, 2012. Our distribution partners Trinity Church International did a great job working with the Burundi customs to insure no delay. The 40 foot container was off-loaded into the church compound. The food is now being provided to the Feeding Centers so the children will be fed. We are very thankful that old friendships are being renewed after years of lost contact. Feeding The Nations is grateful to Pastors Jamie and Lea Peters for their faithfulness over the years while establishing many churches in several African Nations.
September 12, 2012: 35 pallets of rice and vegetable meals arrived in Mexico after several weeks of obtaining a clearance from Mexico City. The distributions are now taking place and are being overseen by Root International. Churches in Juarez are helping the needy in the communities. These 272,160 meals will help this area and bring some hope to the hopeless.
Mexico: A Time to Help Our Neighbors
Reaching Mexico has been difficult in the past due to strict border regulations. Instead of being able to take a semi-truckload of food into Mexico, smaller loads would have to be carried over individually, making the task tedious and time-consuming. Thanks to the efforts of our partners, that wasn’t the case in 2011.
In 2012, we provided food for two feeding programs in Mexico. Normally there are strict regulations about taking food across in large amounts, and it has been difficult to reach those in need. Thanks to the efforts of Root International and Jerusalem Evangelical Ministries, we were able to get clearances for rice/vegetable meals, dehydrated vegetable soup, assorted foods, vitamins, dried peaches and nectarines to cross the border in large amounts. The total amount of food and vitamins provided for these outreaches are over 160,000 pounds.
Some of the provisions were sent to people living near Juarez, which has become unstable and extremely violent since the government has failed to keep control of the city. A third of the population has left the city and 10,000 children have been orphaned. The food was distributed to schools, orphanages, feeding outreaches and churches.
Additional provisions were sent to the region of San Luis in Sonora, Mexico. One group who received food was a desert community. The people there live in make-shift shelters, have little or no access to electricity and must boil what water is available before they can consume it. To receive any sort of education, the children must walk a great distance to the city. The food was much needed as one report told that as the distribution of the food began, children came forward asking for bread or any sort of nourishment. “Fortunately, by the Grace of the Lord, and the precious partnering organizations, we had something nutritious for them and their families to eat.”
It all started on Sunday, December 26, 2004, when an earthquake in the Indian Ocean sparked a deadly tsunami that became one of the worst natural disasters in recorded history. The tsunami killed over 230,000 people in 14 nations. Seeing the great need and the opportunity to help, FTN was born in February 2005. Its very first mission was to get vital food and nutrition to those who were affected by the tsunami.
Nearly two decades later, FTN is still committed to sharing the love of God, while bringing the abundance of the developed world to those in critical need in the third world. FTN has reached 75 nations with over $100 million in total goods and services worldwide, including 150 million meals. [Read more here]
