What a privilege to reach a nation in great need! When Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico in September of last year, it left people hurt, homeless and hopeless. It also impacted families within our own local community as they had a way to tangibly help those in need.
We teamed up with Covenant Christian School (CCS) in Mishawaka, Ind., to send supplies and food to help aid in the recovery efforts. The Spanish teacher at CCS organized the collection and worked with the local Puerto Rican community who wanted to help their family and friends, but didn’t know how to do it from afar.
Together we sent a container of food, vitamins, water, diapers, baby wipes, canned goods and bandages, which made a huge impact. It was given to people in relief shelters and children in schools. The children were very excited to receive something they could take home to their parents. One child said he was excited to receive something because his mother had not been happy since the hurricane and bringing home those items would help make her smile.
There has been a lot of depression among the survivors, and we are honored to be able to provide hope and a helping hand during a difficult recovery.
