Mexico – June 2011 Update
Mexico: Reaching a Desert Community
We helped provide 43,000 pounds of dried vegetable soup mix—almost 1 million servings—that was distributed to several city and rural village feeding programs in Northern Mexico. The food blessed the lives of many people who spend their days living in destitute situations and with little nourishment, including a poverty-stricken desert community.
“On behalf of Jerusalem Evangelical Ministries, I want to express our sincere gratitude to our precious partners for this high quality food product that will feed numerous poverty stricken children, teens and adults who are experiencing very desperate living conditions in Northern Mexico.” ~ Lanny Anderson, president, Jerusalem Evangelical Ministries
Recently, we partnered with Gleanings for the Hungry to provide 43,000 pounds of dried vegetable soup mix that was distributed to several city and rural village feeding programs in the region of San Luis in Sonora, Mexico. The food blessed the lives of many people who spend their days living in destitute situations and with little nourishment.
One group who received some of the food was in a desert community south of San Luis. The people there are poverty-stricken and are barely existing in the unfavorable environment they call home. The people build makeshift shelters of any materials they can find—cardboard, pallet wood, tarp, tires, etc. Some live in decrepit trailers that were dumped in the desert. Very little electricity exists there and any water that is available must be boiled first. Many cook by open fire and others by propane camp stoves. For the children to attend school, they must walk a great distance to a northern city. The team who distributed the food said children came up to them asking, “Do you have bread for us?” The people were grateful for the food they received and the hope it offers. A few pastors who were distributing the food plan to work alongside these people in the future. They hope to return to build a more structurally sound church.
This was just one of the groups who received the meals. Many others were touched by the food and love of Christ they received. We thank everyone who has partnered with us to make missions such as these possible. Know that your generosity has changed lives.
Mexico – May 2011 Update
Once again FTN partnered with Hunger Plus to bless the people of the San Luis region of Northern Mexico with 924,000 servings of protein fortified vegetable soup.
